Background

The East London Mosque, situated in the inner London Borough of Tower Hamlets between Whitechapel and Aldgate, serves the UK’s largest Muslim community. It lies near the edge of the City of London, the capital’s busy business area, and just a couple of miles from the fast-expanding London Docklands. Combined with the adjoining London Muslim Centre, it is one of the largest mosques in United Kingdom in terms of capacity, holding up to 5000 people.

 

The Problem

This was a new-build project, the concrete deck of the roof had no falls resulting in water ponding on the roof, it required falls to enhance the drainage of water reun-off from the roof levels.

One of the great benefits to us was that Jablite has the ability to mould the insulation to the required thickness to achieve the u-value. That meant we only had one board to install rather than having to put down and stick several layers to achieve the same thermal performance. Jablite insulation was lightweight and easy to install. We did not need specialist PPE or equipment. There is minimal waste with Jablite insulation as it’s 100% recyclable and Jablite collected our offcuts from this particular site and recycled them.
